No, really. Read it. It's not fun, it's not pleasant. But you should read it.

Now that [info]the_ladylark and I have been living in our house for a while, we've decided to start getting it how we want it. We discussed what would be our preferred things to do, and it came down to three main things. The drive, the kitchen, and the garden. Good and Bad points were discussed about each, and we finally came to a decision. The result?

We have a new kitchen!

More under cut, including a few pictures. )

[info]the_ladylark is watching Wimbledon this week, and just said this gem...

I do prefer to watch the Men's game, especially when the Williams Sisters are playing.

Well I found it funny. :)

# A perfect morning for (other peoples) kids to play. And I've got zero bills to paaaay! What can I dooooo.

Well, for a start, take advantage of the lovely weather. So I'm now sitting in the sun at a beer festival in Sutton Hall (Cheshire) and enjoying the warmth of the sun, the refreshment of the beer, and the coolness of an ice cream. I am happy. :)

Am writing whilst sat on a tube to Fulham to go visit a client site. I boarded this tube at Embankment where the platform info said it was going to Wimbledon. However the onboard announcements and displays claim it is going to Richmond, which is not the branch I needed, wanted, or thought I had gotten. Have been checking the boards at various stations along the way and all of them so far have claimed the train is going to Wimbledon.

Just out of curiosity I loaded up my Live Tube Boards app when I had a signal at a station to see what it said. It said I was on a Richmond train. This leads me to believe that LU are simply unable to run information services worth a damn. And if they are unable to manage the relatively simple task of displaying the right destination when they actually have the correct details what hope do they have of running a decent service.

The album "The Sleeper" by The Leisure Society is extremely good, and you should go buy it. Also, Brooke Waggoner's album "Heal For The Honey" is very worthwhile. Lastly, The Mummers. Absolutely brilliant album called "Tale to Tell". Buy all of them if you can.

If you want comparisons for genre-related pigeonholing, or to work out if you'd like them, I keep The Leisure Society in the playlist that includes bands like Semisonic, Starsailor, and Turin Brakes. ([info]the_ladylark is particularly reminded of the Turin Brakes song "Stone Thrown" from Ether Song.)
Brooke Waggoner is under the same genre playlist as Regina Spektor (Best match I can think of at the moment are the songs "On The Radio", and "Fidelity".)
And the Mummers are just awesome, vocally sounding a lot like Bjork in her smoother phases, and musically like an orchestrated big band. (Can't really describe it better than that. Just listen to http://www.last.fm/music/the+mummers/_/March+of+the+Dawn and you'll see what I mean.)

My dentistry visits are now complete... My broken "root canal" tooth has finally been repaired. After 5 visits I now have a crown on the tooth and a normal feel to my toothline.
(I say normal, it actually feels wierd not to have a half-tooth in my mouth.)

Since we moved into our place there's been a tree stump in the front lawn. Not too noticeable, but it does make mowing the lawn a tad awkward. Removing it from said lawn has been in the circular tuit file since we moved in.

Today was the first "garden day" of spring, where the garden was scarified and raked, the dandelions were decapitated, and the grass was given a haircut.

As it was nice out I though I'd finally go look at the options available for removing the tree stump. The internal vote was to go get StumpDoom - the Big Stonking +5 Axe of Thwack - and his smaller brother Hatchett Jack. After a few minutes of Mad Axmanship Skillz I had a stump with quite a lot of it missing. Jack then joined in the massacre and I got it to a point where I should be able to remove the main body of the stump using StumpDoom. A couple of swings were used to loosen it, before one final meaty swing embedded itself very firmly into the stump. I was then able to use the axe to pretty much lever it up and get a handhold under the base.

Following a bearlike roar, a ripple of muscle, and a ripping sound[1] I had a hole in the front lawn.

I've mostly filled it with peat and am now deciding what to do with it. HRS has a small box of wild flower seeds that will probably do well there. Or I could reseed it with grass, although I'd probably turn over the whole front garden if I were to do that just to keep the thing uniform. (And to get rid of the weeds properly.)

Decisions decisions. But at least Ol' Stumpy is no more.

[1] Well, a sotto voce "Come on you bastard, get out", the tensing of every muscle in my back/arms/neck, and a slightly disconcerting sound like I'd just pulled a welly out of a peak district mudpuddle...

My Russian is not so hot since I left school... (and wasn't that hot back then either.)

Would these be examples of those spam journals I hear about? (or is my journal so interest morbidly fascinating that it is able to attact russian readers?)

Have just finished reading Turn Coat. Stonking good read. Jim Butcher now sits at the top of my favourite author list.
